tile design

I purposely chose a matte finish glaze on the leaves and stem and a glossy glaze on the flower for the contrast of textures.

Crazy Dog Love Expressionist Painting

Done on canvas cloth in acrylics of varying thicknesses, in painterly fashion. I guess I'm CRAZY about dogs and especially their soulful brown eyes and ever present smiles that lighten my day.

Acrylics and a wooden picture frame...

With brush in hand, I used painterly strokes in what I call sunny blue sky colors to create this hand-painted picture frame.

Acrylic Sketch of Live Model

Noticed I had a painting assistant & decided to paint her. It's kind of hard to paint a dog because she wants to move, so I had to work fairly fast and gesturally. This is acrylic on canvas pad-but not the cheap kind--a real cloth canvas pad.

Print of Deer

Print of deer carved from lino.  I like the design and will try more. Went to another art festival today in Westlake, Ohio. Them went to the Duck Tape Festival in Avon, Ohio. A little disappointed. Thought I would see more artistic things and less home improvement booths.

Playing with new acrylic set

Went to Cleveland Heights to Utrecht and got new acrylics, realizing I may not possess the patience for oils or watercolors. Just took some time and experimented (monkied, that is) with them--thinking about my favorite place--the tropics. Felt like a little kid again with finger paints, so I scrafitto'd some words into that effect.

My Charcoal of a Greyhound

This is a tight drawing I did of a rescued greyhound.  I did get involved with animal causes and all 4 of our animals were adopted. Am working over 30 hours this weekend. Have little time.

Whistler's Mother Cartoon

I also like to cartoon.  The image you see is of Whistler's mother-my version.  Went to 2 art festivals in the area today.  One in Lyndhurst and the other in Chagrin Falls. Talked to some of the artists and there was some very high end work displayed. Learned some new things. Never saw so many elegant original watercolors in one place, such as those I saw in Chagrin Falls. These women have the patience of Job...  An awesome artist from Austin, Texas, Michael Babyak (www.babyakart.com) more truly speaks my language. He stated that he works in  acrylics because its the fastest drying medium-even going as far as using a blow dryer to hasten the process. He said he didn't have the patience for long drying processes. But that's OK. His work has everything to gain in spontaneity.

Starting oil paintings

Began small landscape. Experimented with everything from scrafitto to painterly brush strokes in this winter scene.
Playing with color palette and different oil mediums. Completed painting or near completion. Will take awhile to dry.

My first art post blog. I'll start with this drawing.

This is a charcoal drawing I did of my mother-in-law when she was about the age of seven.  She was a small girl in war-torn Europe when her family was forced into cattle cars and had to leave their homes forever. These were German Christians living in Yugoslavia.  One evening, Allied bombers attacked, and people ran screaming for their lives from the rail cars. This little girl witnessed people dead and dying--and was severely traumatized
to this very day.

For her last birthday, instead of giving her a conventional present, I presented her with this drawing, which I had matted and framed.  I included in the gift, a typewriter and a big notebook and plenty of paper.
She had been threatening to write her memoirs of this and other experiences of being of war refugee for years.  Now in her seventies, with lots of time on her hands, I figured what better time than now. AND she is DOING it...  (After bottling it up for over 65 years---the emotions are still raw.)
